WonderGirl: Super Business Power

Our couch has seen better days. It is nearing the point when it must be put out to pasture, reclining in fields of thrift stores and bachelor pads. So I've been on the hunt for a new living room set, which is a BIG deal. That's no small purchase for our budget. After deciding on what I want, (which is in a lovely shade called "paprika"), I then fainted dead away at the cost. They thought I was testing the sofa, but no. I was unconscious.

But being the innovative creature that I am, I have decided to make the money myself. I have ordered some lovely fabric, and will begin this weekend making baby slings to sell on ebay. If I have some success there, I will create my own website and do it from there. I need somewhere around $1000 for the furniture, more for additional pieces. I'm hoping by the fall to have a nice chunk of that saved.

Here are the patterns that I got. Cool, huh?

I know they are mostly floral, but I'm gonna branch out. These were on sale! Next time, I want some retro patterns. Maybe I should do some solids, too. Anyway, whatcha think? If I can make a profit of say, $20 on each one, then that's about 50 or so slings to get me to $1000. They don't take long to make, it's really just a matter of getting all my material out and keeping the kids out of it.

I'm excited though! I will keep you updated on my success/failure.

Way to go!! Someone needed to do this. Too bad I don't need one now. It sounds like a very worthy cause.

Oh, and you wouldn't have found the living room furniture at Rooms To Go would you? We just purchased new living room furniture from there and one of the colors to choose from was paprika. Just curious.

Alison, let me commend your excellent taste because YES, the very same! Isn't it awesome? If I don't end up with that one, I want one JUST like it. Lovely!

And I'll email you once I get going in the biz. :)

Great, no rush. We're in the process of working on number three at the moment. I'd actually like to see the retro fabrics when you decide to get some of those.
And yes, we LOVE our furniture! It's the first time we've ever bought new furniture all by ourselves! We actually got the pear green sofa, yellow (I forget the fancy name for it) loveseat and the accent chair. We love them!

Great plan! I hope all goes well. I would kill for a new couch right now. Cute fabrics, BTW.

Awesome idea! My aunt is making pillows from old bedspreads she got cheap at antique stores. She's selling them like hotcakes on eBay!

What sort of slings are you going to sell? Ring slings? Pouch slings?

Oh you kids with your newfangled things. We had to LUG our babies on our hips, walking uphill, barefoot, in the snow, totin' them bebbies!! Afterwards, we needed slings for our arms, we were so tired!!!
Seriously, I hope that you make more than enough to buy your new furniture. I am not the least bit creative or I would try to do something like that to replace these two matching pieces of, well, you get the idea. Although, I have the idea of making cell phone holders in your bra. I put mine between the "girls" so I can hear it I am out. But I have no sewing skills so it is just sitting in my brain......

Kristin, I am making pouch slings, mostly because those are the kind I use myself and they seem pretty easy to make!

Lovin' the fabric. Good Luck!
