From Her Sketchbook

mygirl.jpg

Czarina is her father's daughter. When something interests her, she is quick to grab her pen and pad and try to capture it with lines. Here are a few pages from the mind of my seven year old.

BIRDS

(The birds in the middle right side were dubbed "banana birds" and much laughter ensued over their silliness)

HER FRIENDS

(Amy, notice Ava in her fairy shirt and with Baby dragging behind her?)

JESUS:

(See God in the upper right hand side, looking down on His son in happiness?)

MAMASUE'S YARD:

(This is an amazingly accurate picture.)

But, she takes after me as well, occasionally. Here is the first page of a story called "Angel's Above". I do love her theology.

And lsst but not least, a little from the schoolroom. We read one of Aesop's fables the other day, about Belling the Cat. It was about the mice figuring out how to put a bell around the cat's neck as a warning system. Her directions were to draw a picture of how SHE would manage to get the bell on the cat. I fell out laughing at this one.

That's a syringe, in case you couldn't tell. The fiend wouldn't stand a chance.

These are so good, especially for her age - wow!

This brings to mind a book I read recently - The Creative Family by Amanda Blake Soule. You may enjoy the advice she gives on nurturing your family's creativity, individually and as a whole.

Oh! I just love it!I know King Pen is probably teaching her art, but have you found the book 'drawing with children' by mona brooks? My mom has been an art teacher for 20+ years and it is her all time favorite. Some of Czarina's birds reminded me of examples in the book.

Those are some great drawings. I love the one of the cross on top of the world. She is thinking some deep thoughts there. Tell her to draw one for Aunt Charlotte and please sign it for later on when she is a famous artist so I can say and show her beginnings as an artist. The boys can draw one also. Love from aunt charlotte

Thanks for the book recommendations! I'll have to look into those. Patrick has been doing some instruction with her, and she loves it. I may have to make this a reoccuring blog post, because I had such a hard time choosing which drawings to show. She's got so many!

those are just super!!! I do believe you are right, and she has inherited her dad's artistic talents as well as your writing talents! Please do post more of her drawings, and please, please post the rest of her story, the first page is amazing, the way that children see God is a beautiful thing to behold, it is so pure and simple and honest. Thank you for sharing these with us.

Ahh Miss Wrenn. A big old heart and a good brain to go with it. She's a nature lover who can talk to plants, she's got a snappy fashion sense, she's sweet and very witty and I'm always impressed with her talents. She works to get it right, but she doesn't get so caught up that she can't laugh at a mistake. She always give me a big goofy smile when I ask if she wants to 'write' together. I'm so blessed to have this girl for a drawing buddy.
